Real Estate Blogging: 20 Things To Write About

Written by Smart Agents | May 14, 2018 5:06:51 PM

Blogging can be a huge foundation for netting your real estate website long-term organic traffic, giving your brand maximum visibility on search engines like Google.

According to HubSpot, people who post 16 or more times every month get 3.5 times more traffic than those who publish 0-4 monthly posts.

A real estate website is a powerful way to build your brand and showcase your authority in the industry. By providing professional tips and thoughts on your blog, you get to establish yourself as a trustworthy, go-to Realtor.

Constantly updating a blog, however, isn't easy. What do you write about? How do you come up with enough ideas to churn out 16 blog posts every month?

Here are 20 general blog topics to help you keep your blog running and never let the fire burn out:

1. Tips on mortgage loan applications

First-time buyers typically have no clue how to go about financing their first home. The majority will have a hard time getting approved for their first home loan because they didn’t prepare well in advance.

You can offer tips on how to prepare and apply for mortgage loans. You can write several posts describing the process, requirements, pitfalls, what to look out for, first-time home buyer programs, tips for boosting credit, among other related topics.

2. Home valuation and remodeling

Remodeling a home is one of the best ways to increase a home’s value before selling it. However, not all remodeling projects will guarantee a high ROI.

As a Realtor, you know what works and what doesn’t. Take your clients through the dos and don’ts of home remodeling and discuss the corresponding values of the most popular renovations.

3. Home staging

Home staging is another hot topic among Realtors and home sellers. Unfortunately, most home sellers don’t know how to properly stage a home. Most go about it the wrong way or ignore staging completely, even though it’s one of the best ways to sell a home fast and for a greater value.

Provide sellers with guidance on how to stage a home on your blog. They might thank you later with a listing!

4. Tips on relocation

Give people interested in moving to your area tips about their move. Take them through the process of finding a home in your area and how to make the move as stress-free as possible.

5. Spotlights on the most beautiful homes on the market

Think about the most beautiful or unique homes you’re currently listing and highlight them on your blog. This isn't the same as simply marketing the homes — really highlight what makes them unique.

6. Neighborhood spotlights

Home buyers interested in relocating will be looking for information about the different areas they're considering for their move. Help them find the perfect location for their needs.

Providing neighborhood spotlights on your blog is something that home buyers will find very valuable.

7. Local business spotlights

You could also write features on local businesses. Buyers want to be as familiar with the area as possible before they move.

8. Spotlights on local schools

Schools are a huge deciding factor for families when it comes to buying a home. Provide buyers with up-to-date information on schools within your area — like the most recent school rankings.

9. Local regulations

There are specific local regulations that might affect home buyers and sellers. Most people are not aware that such regulations exist. Let them know what your local regulations might entail. Also talk about local building codes, livestock or pet restrictions, parking rules, etc.

10. Testimonials/success stories

Highlighting testimonials and customer success stories is something you should already be doing. People tend to hire Realtors who have been successful in the past.

The only way to showcase your success is to publish these testimonials on your blog. Make it a habit to ask your clients for a review or a quick Q&A session.

11. Case studies

Turn your testimonials/success stories into case studies. Write blogs derived from your testimonials to tell the story of how they came to be your clients, your experience working with them, their dreams and hopes and how the home purchase or sale you helped them with saw them achieve their dreams.

12. Answer your readers’ questions or concerns

Sometimes, your readers could provide blog topics for you. Simply ask them what they’re interested in reading on your blog.

You can also track the questions they ask in your comments section, on social media, via email, etc., and then blog about the issues that stand out the most.

13. Offer recommendations

During your career as a Realtor, you may have worked with outstanding service providers. This could be a great attorney, an interior designer, a mortgage specialist, or a general contractor.

Do a round up of all the relevant service providers home buyers or sellers will find useful during the home selling/buying process.

14. Analyze reports

You can do monthly market reports showing people current local housing trends, home sale trends, mortgage trends, etc.

15. Talk about pricing

Pricing is always a confusing topic for most home sellers. They simply don’t know what the right price for their home should be. Talk about the various considerations that go into determining a sale price.

16. Interview notable people

Find notable people in the area whose opinions would matter to your readers. These could include a local politician, a leader of a local residents association or a chairman of the business community, among others.

17. How to choose and work with a listing agent

Choosing and working with a listing agent is one of the hardest decisions most buyers and sellers grapple with. Some choose not to work with one because of the negative reputation associated with real estate agents.

Change this perception by addressing concerns and doubts that you have personally witnessed when dealing with clients looking to list with you.

18. Advice on when to sell

Some seasons are better to put a house on the market than others. The time of year a home goes on the market could affect how fast or slow it sells. Give an analysis of the best months to sell or buy a home — you've got two posts right there!

19. Talk to millennials

A huge number of home buyers today are millennials. Nine out of 10 millennials seek advice on buying a home online.

Blogging about topics that resonate with millennials will allow you to reach a ready and searching audience that might just end up being your clients.

20. Advice on how to buy vacant land

You’ve probably already blogged over and over about how to buy or sell a house. So how about exploring something different that other Realtors aren’t doing? Blog about buying vacant parcels of land. This may be a smaller niche, but interest is there.

Create an Editorial Calendar For Your Blog

When you're running a blog, an editorial calendar can help you keep track of your posts. Publishing your posts on a schedule helps you stay organized and can help former and potential clients keep up.

Writing and publishing your real estate blog content may be an effective strategy in the short term. But if you’re not tracking the topics you cover and the types of articles you produce, along with the frequency at which you publish these posts, you won’t manage to provide the greatest value to your audience.

Why is an editorial calendar important?

  • You can plan what you will blog about weeks in advance. You can have several topics planned out a month before and decide which one will be published on which day. Create a spreadsheet and organize your ideas in an orderly way.
  • You will get inspired to keep blogging week in week out because you know well in advance what you should be blogging about.
